- Description
- The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to award a fixed priced purchase order on a sole source basis to Illumina, Inc., 5200 Illumina Way, San Diego, CA 92122-4616 to procure the Illumina MiSeq Next Generation Sequencer. This instrument will be used by the NIH, Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Lab to produce high resolution HLA typing results for the numerous transplant protocols supported by the laboratory. It will replace the Illumina MiSeq system that was purchased in 2015. Illumina is the sole manufacturer and distributor of this instrument. TheIllumina MiSeq system is an integrated instrument that performs clonal amplification, genomic DNA sequencing, and data analysis with base calling, alignment, variant calling, and reporting in a single run. The Illumina MiSeq system will provide the Lab with the highest HLA typing results possible. The transplant protocols served by the HLA Lab require highest resolution possible to increase the chance of a successful transplant. The HLA Lab requires this specific instrument because it currently has two existingIllumina MiSeq instruments in the lab and a compatible instrument is needed to integrate with the existing procedures and quality control assessments made for this instrument. This acquisition is being conducted under the authority of the FAR Subpart 13.106-1(b)(i), Contracting officers may solicit from one source if the contracting officer determines that the circumstances of the contract action deem only one source reasonably available.
