- Description
- For clinical diagnostic test development and validation, we require bacterial cultures from patients infected with Bartonella, and serum from patients with Bartonella infections. Specifically, we require 200 well-characterized archived Bartonella cultures that are low passage, from recurrent as well as single infections of patients. Additionally, we require 500 serum samples from patients confirmed to have Bartonella infection. The samples must be obtained from a vendor having established Bartonella clinical experience as well as expertise in laboratory testing to ensure high quality samples for use in clinical method validation. The Bartonella isolates must have existing clinical information with regards to when the Bartonella isolates were recovered from patient samples, the stage of infection at which the isolate was recovered, passage history of the isolates, Bartonella speciation, and patient clinical information/history. The matched serum samples must have clinical information linking them to specific isolates and well as timing with respect to when Bartonella isolates were cultured. The 200 archived culture samples and 500 archived serum samples held at the University of California, San Francisco have been collected by Dr. Jane Koehler, an expert in clinical and laboratory diagnosis of Bartonella infections. All cultures archived by Dr. Koehler are well characterized low passage isolates from Bartonella infected patients. Dr. Koehler isolated these cultures in her laboratory and as such has well documented passage history for every isolate as well as the low passage isolates we require for clinical method validation. Dr. Koehler also has associated laboratory and clinical data for each Bartonella culture, including when the culture was recovered from patient samples, the stage of infection at which the isolate was recovered, passage history of the isolates, Bartonella speciation, and patient clinical information/history. Dr. Koehler also has matched archived serum samples from the same patients from which she recovered these Bartonella isolates and well as other sera from Bartonella patients her laboratory investigated with corresponding high-quality clinical and laboratory data we require.
