- Description
- The 87 ABW/HC seeks the services of a Protestant Music Director for the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB MDL) Chapels. This contract will consist of one (1) base year with four (4) option years. 1. The director of music will provide the necessary support to facilitate praise and worship music at the Protestant Worship Service. a. Leading b. Directing c. Teaching d. Vocal Ensemble 2. Programming will emphasize music within the protestant tradition, as directed by the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. 3. Characteristics of the Music Program. a. This position supports the worship component of the Protestant and Mission statements as identified by the Protestant Advisory Council and authorized by the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. The Music Program will meet the needs of a diverse multidenominational Protestant Community. b. The music program will be designed to provide appropriate music ministry within the protestant worship setting. c. The Senior Faith Group Chaplain is solely responsible for all activities conducted during worship, including music. At no time will the director deviate from programmed activities without the permission of the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. 4. The nature of the work requires active participation in the Protestant community at JB MDL. Specific Tasks: a. Directs all worship music at the Protestant worship service, JB MDL chapel as instructed by the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. b. Selects the music to be performed in coordination with the Senior Faith Group Chaplain or his/her designate. c. Submits requests for music resources to the Senior Faith Group Chaplain or his/her designate for approval. d. Observes all safety and security requirements at the designated facility. e. Ensures that newly acquired music is properly cataloged, identified and filed. f. Provides personal arrangements and compositions for the choir to match their capabilities. g. Monitor chapel musical instruments. Advises the chaplain in charge of the service of any needed repair, preventative maintenance, or replacement. h. Ensure that chapel equipment used outside the chapel facility for chapel sponsored programs is signed out on the appropriate AF Form 1297, temporary issue receipt, and proper resource protection measures are taken for the period the equipment is outside the chapel.i. Recruits and trains choir members in technique and musical notation. When appropriate, arrange for the choir to participate in clinics, workshops and basic music education instruction opportunities. j. Request logistical support using established AF and chapel policies and procedures. k. Coordinates all music activities with the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. l. The contractor will ensure that all facilities are properly secured at the conclusion of each rehearsal or service, when a chaplain or Chapel Service Support Personnel are not present. m. Research and organize selections to become familiar with music on hand. n. Plan the year's music and calendar in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. Assist in selecting hymns and other music in the protestant tradition when requested by the Senior Faith Group Chaplain. o. Organize and direct informal efforts to familiarize congregation with new and alternative music as presented in the protestant tradition. p. If necessary and with the approval of the Senior Faith Group Chaplain, coordinates and cooperates with the service musician on music selection, rehearsal, and performance. q. Provide choir support for military and civilian community events as an outreach. r. Contractor shall not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws. s. While in the performance of their duties, must wear appropriate professional business attire. Must present a neat and clean image. t. Function as a musical representative to the protestant advisor counsel. u. Other related duties as assigned.
