The LVTI regularly performs experiments on rodent models to look at the contribution of various genes to thrombosis and inflammation and explore strategies to mitigate any adverse effects. During these studies in animal models, the differential blood counts in systemic circulation might get altered. Determining the differential blood count is therefore important to understand the role of gene(s) being investigated in maintaining homeostasis. LVTI also systematically evaluates blood cells in patients blood samples for evidence of activation that may contribute to thrombosis and inflammation. Determining blood cell counts in patient samples helps us to determine the volume of patient blood sample needed for an ex vivo experiment. Measuring the differential blood counts is thus essential in determining the physiological impact of genes/proteins in rodent experiments and to effectively accomplish the goals of an ex vivo experiment performed with limited patient samples. The objective of this purchase is to procure a blood cell analyzer in support of these studies that are aligned with the goals of the LVTI and mission critical for the NHLBI and NIH. Product Specifications/Features/Salient Characteristics Key characteristics essential for the blood cell analyzer system are as follows: 1. Must be able to determine the differential blood count for human, mouse and rat samples. 2. Must have dedicated pre-programmed species keys for human, mouse and rat samples. 3. Must be fast enough to process up to 25 samples per hour. 4. Must have an extended operating range to ensure accuracy for samples with very high cell counts.
