- Description
- The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a long history of innovation, pioneering research, and medical breakthroughs that have benefited the entire health care industry. The VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (Public Law 115-182, hereinafter MISSION Act), signed into law in June 2018, strengthens VA care and streamlines Veteran choice. Section 152 of the MISSION Act authorized the creation of the Center for Innovation for Care and Payment (the Center ), which established The Center for Care and Payment Innovation (CCPI), which reports through the VHA Office of Health Innovation and Learning (OHIL), which itself is located in Office of Discovery, Education and Affiliate Networks (DEAN). The Center was established to test approaches or models to reduce costs while preserving or enhancing the quality of services furnished by VA. To test these models, the Secretary, operating through the Center has been granted the authority to request waivers to certain regulations and provisions of law that impact the operations of the Department, Veteran s health care, and other services. Under this authority, CCPI seeks to develop and drive innovative care and payment models that advance high-value care and deliver holistic impact for Veterans and the Department. By researching, analyzing, developing, evaluating and scaling successful models across the enterprise, CCPI aims to create efficiencies, promote equity and achieve the best health outcomes for all Veterans.
