Description
Update 12/22/2022: Amended Special Notice Document (Please see attached DARPA-SN-23-29 20221222 Amendment 001). The U.S. Government, specifically the Department of Defense and Department of Commerce, continue to make significant investments in addressing the space domain awareness mission. The goal of the Space-WATCH program is to provide real-time persistent tracking of all objects in Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) so that when an anomalous action occurs, operators can be notified in a timely fashion, allowing them to plan and execute appropriate actions. To accomplish this, Space-WATCH aims to capitalize on the enormous volume of low-cost in-situ sensors in LEO on commercial satellites that can contribute to continuous detection and tracking of nearby objects, identify when an anomaly or unexpected event/movement occurs, and then provide relevant details in a timely fashion to ground-based operators who can then direct appropriate action. Critical to this process will be the establishment of an as-a-service model to incentivize data collection from non-government owned sensors that can be processed to form a single operational picture of LEO. This will provide the opportunity for commercial LEO operators to capitalize on an additional revenue stream by providing on-orbit observations that will contribute to a safer LEO environment for all participants. DARPA will host an Industry Day in support of DARPA-PS-23-01, the Space-WATCH program on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the Strategic Analysis, Inc. Conference Space on 4075 Wilson Blvd, Suite 300, Arlington, VA, 22203 or via Zoom.gov from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET. The purpose of this session is to promote additional discussion on this topic; address questions from potential proposers; and provide additional instructions on how potential proposers can present their capabilities for teaming opportunities. For more information, please see the attached Special Notice.
