- Description
- * See Attachment for Complete Sources Sought Notice The Federally authorized Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet Emergency Stabilization Project (FIMI) is situated on the Fire Island barrier island in Suffolk County, New York. There have been 4 construction contracts to date for the FIMI Project, which have been completed and turned over to the sponsor. A portion of the project consisting of a dune and berm, completed and turned-over to the sponsor in 2017 and 2018 was impacted by storms. The storms caused significant coastal damage along this portion of the project, and this emergency stabilization project is the proposed rehabilitation effort under P.L 84-99. The current condition is approximately as vulnerable as the pre-project (Post-Sandy, 2012) condition. Without repair to the project, there is an extremely high threat of damage to barrier island infrastructure, and a high potential for barrier island breaching and the damages associated with a breach. Work will include approximately 800,000 cubic yards of beachfill with a dune at elevation +14-ft NAVD88 and berm at elevation +8.5-ft NAVD88. A hopper dredge will be used to dredge sand from an existing offshore Atlantic Ocean Borrow Area. Complete the entire work ready for use, before March 2024, including final cleanup of the premises. Additional dredging work includes approximately 500,000 cubic yards of beach fill along the Montauk Beach shoreline. A berm will be constructed at a maximum crest elevation of +8.5-ft NAVD88 and a dune will be placed with an elevation height of +12-ft NAVD88. Additional time will be awarded for the Downtown Montauk work. The contract value is estimated to be over $25,000,000. Notice to Proceed is anticipated June 2023. Estimated project duration is 260 calendars days from NTP.
