Performance Based Statement of Work Abandonment of Water Well #12 SAMMS ASSET 10021598 1542 Turtle Trail Patuxent Research Refuge � Laurel, MD 20708 General Information Introduction Patuxent Research Refuge (PRR) is located along MD 197 in Laurel MD. The refuge is a unit of the US Fish and Wildlife Service�s National Wildlife Refuge System. The refuge has multiple units of residential housing. This statement of work requires a certified well drilling company to abandon and seal a now unused water well which provided drinking water to residents. Background: Well #12 served quarters 64 and 65, which were demolished in June 2022. The well is no longer needed for providing drinking water. The water well was originally drilled in 1973 and consists of a 4� steel casing drilled to a depth of approximately 335�. The well is tagged PG-73-0985 Scope: In accordance with the work requirements below, the contractor shall perform all required steps to legally abandon water well #12 in compliance with Maryland Department of the Environment regulations. Work Requirements: Technical requirements: The contractor is responsible for: 1. The contractor shall be a licensed well driller in the state of Maryland. 2. Selective Demolitions: The contractor shall remove and legally dispose of one well pumping unit. 3. Verify well depth by sounding. 4. Insert Tremie Pipe to bottom of well to ensure sealing materials reach bottom of well casing and screen. 5. Place chlorinated gravel into the well casing to a height exceeding the top of the well screen 6. Place cement grout to top of the well casing. If cement subsides, the contractor should remobilize to the site and top off cement if necessary. 7. The contractor shall complete Maryland Department of the Environment Water well Abandonment sealing report form. The contractor shall provide a copy of the sealing report to the Government�s COR. Notes � All old equipment will be removed, disposed and recycled per federal and state laws � The refuge is a closed facility. Access will be provided to areas behind locked gates. The contractor must provide 24 hours� notice of intention to complete work so access can be guaranteed. � Work hours are 7AM to 3:30 PM � Patuxent Research Refuge is a controlled access facility. Contractor employees must have identification. Employee names must be provided to COTR in advance of starting work.
