Description
This requirement is a congressionally mandated program with the Office of the Secretary of Defense Oversight to provide prevention/treatment of domestic violence/child abuse (DV/CA) for military families, Family Advocacy, and Domestic Abuse Involving DoD Military and Certain Affiliated Personnel, to maximize readiness. Located at Air Force (AF)/AF-led joint bases with command sponsored families, this program increases the competency/efficacy of families; preserves families where abuse occurred; and collaborates with state/local civilian social services, law enforcement/medical agencies to prevent further harm. This program promotes public awareness/prevention of DV/CA; allows for restricted reports; provides assessment, rehabilitation, and treatment (including abuser intervention) for families, intimate partners, and victims of extra-familial child abuse, and victim advocacy services for military personnel and beneficiaries. Services performed under these efforts are in accordance with the established principles, practices, and ethics of the professional clinical therapies, Council on Social Work, American Nurses Association Standards of Nursing Practice, and Standards for Professional Nursing Practice in the care of women and newborns, including Department of Defense (DoD) and AF directives. Compliance with standards of care are evaluated during the peer review process as outlined in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 44-119, Medical Quality Operations; Chapter 8, Competency Assessment and Peer Review. Contractors provide prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary) programs and support services for military families. The services are at no expense to the beneficiaries.
