Description
The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to integrate and install the Pylon Conversion Actuator (PCA) Ball-Nut Wiper Scraper (BNWS) on board the V-22 Osprey, including all variants (domestic and FMS). The integration will improve V-22 PCA Ball-Nut reliability, by reducing silica ingestion during operation. The silica creates an abrasive surface between the moving components of the ball-screw system, resulting in premature wear and subsequent failure of the associative components. Analysis shows that adding a BNWS to the ball-screw prevents silica ingestion, improving PCA reliability. The programs objective is to award a contract to support the Drawing changes and incorporate them in the aircraft across the V-22 Program.
