- Description
- Please see the attached memorandumstating the way the government evaluates fabric shade evaluations for all ACC build to spec contracts. This is a no cost change in the way the government evaluates shade sampling that is more in-line with the way industry does it. To summarize, contractors shall: delete the current visual shade matching procedure of Army contract documents: The color and appearance of the (item) shall match the standard sample when viewedusing the AATCC EP9, Option C, (see 6.5) with sources simulating artificial daylight D75 illuminant with a color temperature of 7500K ( 200) illumination of 100 ( 20) foot candles and shall be a good match to the standard sample under incandescent Ailluminant with a color temperature of 2856K ( 200). and substitute with the following: The color and appearance of the (item) shall match the standard sample when viewedusing the AATCC EP9, Option C, (see 6.5) with a primary light source simulating thespectral quality of average daylight, CIE Illuminant D65, with a color temperature of 6500 ( 200) Kelvin (K) illumination of 100 ( 20) foot candles. Alternatively, the color andappearance of the (item) shall match the standard sample with a primary light sourcesimulating artificial daylight, CIE Illuminant D75, with a color temperature of 7500K ( 200) illumination of 100 ( 20) foot candles in lieu of D65. (See 6.5.1). The (item) shallalso be a good match to the standard sample with a secondary source simulating thespectral quality of incandescent lamplight, CIE Illuminant A, with a color temperature of 2856K ( 200). It is requested that all prime contractors of current and pending contractsverify that DD1222s from suppliers indicate whether D65 or D75 light source was used forshade verification. If the light source is not indicated on the DD1222, D65 will be assumed bythe Government Shade Laboratory. No response to this notice is required.
