- Description
- Sci-Finder has been accessed by ARL scientists and engineers since 2004. The creation of an account allows researchers to save chemical formulas, associated documents, including pertinent articles and notes, and alerts created by the user tokeep them apprised of any changes or updates to their areas of interest. We can estimate thatpersonalized, password protected archival and current documentation of activities on the platformstretches back for at least a decade.Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is currentlythe only organization in the world that is able to produce the product known as the Sci-Finder Discovery Platform. Sci-Finder is the most comprehensive database for the chemicalliterature, searchable by topic, author, substances by name or CAS Registry Number, or to use theeditor to draw chemical structures, substructures, or reactions which makes this platform unique. It is a core research tool for chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, physics, environmental science and other science and engineering disciplines and isused extensively by ARL chemists and engineers for the development of new and novel substances aswell as to model chemical reactions. It differs from a traditional subscription in that it providesa dynamic workspace as well as authoritative information on chemical structure and function. The Information Resources Center Offices mission is to support the ARL research mission by acquiring, organizing, and preserving information collections, and providing access to knowledge and educational information resources in the most efficient and effective manner. The ARL Information Resources Center Offices program and its knowledgeable professionals foster information and knowledge management by providing mission critical support to meet researcher information requirements. ARL researchers require access to technical literature to meeting the needs of the distinct specialties found within ARL's mission, namely, science, engineering, and medicine.
