- Description
- Due date has been revised to July 3, 2023 This is a Request for Information to determine available sources for the following scope: CUPID (CUORE Upgrade with Particle Identification) is an international project in nuclear physics, seeking to discover a rare process of neutrinoless double beta decay of the Mo-100 nucleus. CUPID will deploy a large array of cryogenic calorimeter detectors in theform of lithium molybdate (Li2MoO4) single crystals. The crystals will be operated at cryogenictemperatures of about 10 mK and produce scintillation light. CUPID is an internationalcollaboration between the US, Italy, France, and other countries, and will operate in the GranSasso underground lab in Italy. Molybdenum is to be enriched to at least 90% by numberdensity, with the preferred enrichment level of 95% or greater. The total mass of Mo-100element in the detector is 280 kg. Berkeley Lab is interested in procuring 640 LMO crystalsenriched in Mo-100, with the balance procured by our international partners. Berkeley Lab is seeking suppliers with these capabilities. Details of the requested response can be found in the attached RFI document.
