- Description
- A running gear system of aerospace grade is required that meets stringent requirements for flight line and air transport use. The total cost for this acquisition will be $76,459.00 based on a quote from the manufacturer. The Aerol brand running gear system specified in this purchase request is the only system available that has been designed to meet all of the Air Force's requirements. The running gear interfaces with a trailer designed to use this specific system to meet interface, suspension, steering, load bearing, towing, aircraft transportation, and braking requirements. The running gear system required must be independently attached to the trailer at the aft left and aft right corners without a thru axle in order to allow an open space in the center of the trailer required for proper function. All other running gear options have been surveyed and are unable to meet the specific open center requirement. The Aerol brand running gear system has been used for the fabrication of four previous trailer sets and the function and quality has been proven in use. The continued use of this running gear system is essential for continuity and standardization. Procurement of any other system will result in fitment/interface issues with existing equipment designed to use this running gear system; add undue cost of approximately $75k for additional engineering design, evaluation, and testing; and delay further planned testing with this specific running gear in the system environment by approximately six months. This delay would also cause a schedule slip by missing the MQ-9 program Initial Operating Capability (IOC) milestone by approximately six months.
