Description
Page 1 of 5 The bid is set to hand deliver in Cleveland, OH on 6/20/23. At the pre-bid, moving the bid to Indiana was committed by the VA. However, no update was made. ANSWER: Bidders should follow the instructions for electronic submission of bids in the Instruction to Offerors in the solicitation. Is it possible to walk the existing hospital with subcontractors for demolition extents, ICRA considerations, etc? ANSWER: Yes, however accessing areas of the first floor during business hours will be difficult since we are providing patient care. Drawing MG004, the chilled water flow diagram shows chilled water piping a different pipe size than in drawing MP101 (enlarged mechanical room mechanical piping plan). Which drawing has the correct pipe size? ANSWER: CHILLED WATER SUPPLY AND RETURN PIPING FROM CHILLER TO B 4 AS SHOWN ON MP101/102 IN LIEU OF 6 INDICATED ON MG004. Drawing MD101 (attached) shows two ACCUs being relocated (highlighted in attached). What area are these two ACCUs currently supplying? I can t seem to follow the existing pipe route on the drawings. ANSWER: BOTH SET OF REFRIGERANT PIPES ENTER INTO THE BASEMENT MECHANICAL ROOM. THE LARGER CONDENSING UNIT SERVES AN AIR HANDLER IN THE BASEMENT MECHANICAL ROOM. CONTRACTOR WILL NEED TO CONFIRM WHAT THE SMALLER CONDENSING UNIT IS SERVING. Window schedule on sheet AS700 calls for security glazing ballistic for most of the window frames. There is no ballistic glazing in the spec. Can a window tag be provided in the drawings that corresponds with a window tag and make up in the specs? ANSWER: THE SPECIFICATION IS A PERFORMANCE TYPE SPEC AND CALLS OUT MATERIALS IN SECTION D AND 2.4 AND 2.5 OF THE GLAZING SECTION. ALL EXTERIOR WINDOWS SHALL HAVE LAMINATED GLASS AS NOTED AND WILL BE RETAINED WITHIN THE WINDOW FRAME DURING A BLAST EVENT. THE CONTRACTOR NEEDS TO INCLUDE IN THEIR ` BID COST FOR AN ENGINEER S CERTIFICATION OF THE GLAZING SYSTEM IN THE SHOP DRAWINGS. THERE IS ALSO A NOTE FOR THE BLAST RESISTANT GLAZING ON SHEET AS700. Same for insulated/laminated in the window schedule. Is this make up IL #1 from the specs? ANSWER: INSULATED GLASS AT THE EXTERIOR WALL WILL BE LAMINATED AND RATED FOR BLAST RESISTANCE. Glass for frame B4 isn t in the specs. Please provide a tag and corresponding make up in the specs for both the one way glass and the polycarbonate impact glazing. ANSWER: THE MIRROR GLASS AND SECURITY GLASS FOR UNIT B4 COORDINATES WITH SPECIFICATION SECTION 088000 GLAZING. SHEET AS701, HAS A DETAIL THAT CALLS OUT FOR ½ SECURITY GLAZING LITE OF POLYCARBONATE (CLEAR) AND 1/4 MIRROR GLASS. LOOK AT THE SPECIFICATIONS SECTION 2.3 AND 2.5. The aluminum swing doors type SF aren t labeled on the door schedule. ANSWER: THE FOLLOWING DOORS DELETE TYPE SG NOTED AND CHANGE TO SF : DOOR 1450a, 1403a, 1420a. We need to know the charge and the standoff distance for the blast requirements. ANSWER: Blast Report attached to this amendment. What glass are we to use for door sliding door SG? The drawing calls for tempered glass, but also calls this as a blast resistant assembly so please advise. ANSWER: THE GLASS FOR THIS DOOR IS MULTIPLE PANES OF 1/4"" TEMPERED GLASS WITH LAMINATED FILM IN BETWEEN. REFER TO SPECIFICATION SECTION 08000 ON BLAST RESISTANT REQUIREMENTS. In the Specifications 76000 Flashing and Sheet Metal 2.6 Through-Wall Flashing it is calling for a rigid SS flashing. On sheet AS500 it is calling for a flexible flashing. What type of flashing is required for this project? If a flexible flashing is acceptable, what type of flexible flashing Copper, SS, rubberized peel and stick? The rubberized peel and stick is the least expensive and is used on 95% of projects. ANSWER: THERE IS NO PEEL AND STICK RUBBER FLASHING WITHOUT THE STAINLESS STEEL OR WITHOUT A TERMINATION BAR. SOME LOCATIONS BY WINDOWS REQUIRE ONLY STAINLESS STEEL, TYPICAL CAVITY WILL HAVE A PREFABRICATED FLASHING SYSTEM LIKE MORTAR NET S TOTAL FLASH SYSTEM. SEE DETAILS 4 & 5 / AS500. It says per below that there is a cut length for the top bars. The beam schedule & the drawings does not show anything about cut lengths for the beam bars. THE TYPICAL DETAIL IS SHOWING CUT LENGTH FOR PARTIAL LENGTH BARS. BECAUSE OF BLAST REQUIREMENTS, ALL TOP BARS ARE REQUIRED TO BE FULL LENGTH AND LAP AT MI-SPANS. THIS IS WHY THERE IS NOT CUT LENGTH IN THE SCHEDULE. Pages AS604, AS605, AS607, & AS608 DO NOT appear to have sizing. I tried to find the website listed in the general notes but cannot make it out as it appears these pages are scanned in rather than being the original digital copy. So I did a google search for the VA sign guidelines but that did not bear any fruit in terms of sizes only of design. ANSWER: SIGNAGE DETAILS REFERENCE THE VA SIGN DESIGN GUIDE AND HAS LINK ON THE DRAWINGS. Specification 092216 calls for all non-structural studs to be 30 mil with an exception to members that can show certified third-party testing in accordance with ICC ES AC86. Would ProStud20 EQ studs be acceptable? Their Product Submittal Sheet mentions they were tested in accordance with ICC ES AC86 ANSWER: BID THE 20-GAUGE STUDS AS SPECIFIED. Is it allowable for studs in interior bulkhead assemblies to be placed 24 O.C.? ANSWER: PROVIDE A BID TO MATCH DESIGN Most Exterior walls are noted as being 12 O.C. Can you confirm this? ANSWER: YES, AND IT IS A REQUIREMENT OF THE DESIGN ENGINEER FOR BLAST RESISTANCE. On Wall Sections such as 4/AS501, Note 40 calls for ½ Exterior Sheathing per Specification 061663 which calls for Cement Board. Can you confirm this is the desired product? It won t provide much holding strength for screws. ANSWER: THE DESIGN INTENT FOR THIS SHEATHING IS TO BE A DENS GLASS PRODUCT, NOT CEMENT BOARD, WHICH IS A COMMON EXTERIOR WALL SHEATHING. 1/2"" FIRE RETARDANT PLYWOOD IS ALSO ACCEPTABLE. On AS1101, the RST-1 stair treads are a product that is only the tread and doesn t include a rubber riser. Do they only want rubber treads or do they want a rubber riser as well? ANSWER: Risers treads are not specified and not required Both LVT-1 and WSF-1 on the finish schedule are no longer available. Please advise. ANSWER: VA recommends like product with same salient characteristics. Colors TBD during submittals. AS500: Note 88: Calls for metal faced insulated spandrel panels. These are shown in many locations on the cut sections (unfortunately, there are no notes or glass tags on window schedule or window elevations to clearly identify this). However, there are no metal panels included in the specs. What are we supposed to quote for these locations? Do we need to include spandrel insulation at these areas? Drawings show a batt insulation, but I don t see anything called out in our spec. ANSWER: COORDINATE INFORMATION FROM WALL SECTIONS WITH WINDOW ELEVATIONS AND EXTERIOR ELEVATION SHEET. SHEET AS401 SHOWS ALL SPANDREL PANELS ON EXTERIOR WINDOWS BY A SHADED GREY HATCH, WHICH OCCURS AT THE BOTTOM LITES AND TOP LITES. Elevator Substitution and Digression from Otis Elevators I ve attached the primary elevator sheet from the drawings, and also the elevator specifications. I don t believe they are aligned on the desired elevators. 14 21 00 1.1.C, 1.1.D, and 1.1.E Reference Elevators No 1 3 as overhead traction equipment. The AS802 drawing show machines in the hoistway with rail mounted machines. Otis GEN3 products would align with the drawings. 1.1.E Freight Elevator No. 3 references vertical bi-parting hoistway doors and car gate. The drawing shows 2-speed, side-slide entrances. 2-speed, side-slide would be standard equipment for our GEN3 system. Elevator Schedule The description for Elevator No. 1 is consistent with a standard Underlung 4500# capacity. The only issue on this unit is the spec states 5 Stops and 6 Openings, but the drawings show 5 and 5. The description for Elevator No. 2 calls for a 6000# capacity underslung elevator. Otis does not manufacture a 6000# underslung. To my knowledge, I don t believe a 6000# underslung is available from any supplier. Otis can provide a 5000# underslung for this elevator. It would be the same as Elevator No. 3. ANSWER: THE 6,000# ELEVATOR IS A CUSTOM UNIT. THE OTIS REP SAID THEY CAN DESIGN ONE AS CUSTOM FOR THIS WEIGHT RANGE; HOWEVER, THEY NEVER PROVIDED ANY FURTHER INFORMATION TO US DURING DESIGN PHASE. THIS IS NOT A STANDARD OFF THE SHELF UNIT, BUT THERE ARE EXAMPLES ELEVATORS BUILT IN VARIOUS BUILDINGS WITHIN THIS REGION THAT HAVE HIGHER WEIGHT RANGES THAN THIS. THIS WILL HAVE TO BE NEGOTIATED WITH THE ELEVATOR BIDDER AND THE VA CAN ALSO ADVISE. the description for Elevator No. 3 is that the spec states 5 Stops and 6 Openings, but the drawings show 5 and 5. ANSWER: THERE ARE 5 STOPS AND 5 OPENINGS. Elevator Substitution Request Schindler Elevator Machine Room Less3300 XL Schindler cannot meet the specification, but would be willing to provide the above, knowing the following caveats would be in play. The 6500# car would become 5000# now with normal 4 6 service doors ANSWER: OPEN TO SUBSTITUTIONS OF MANUFACTURERS IF THE VA IS OK WITH THIS. THE VA HOWEVER GAVE THE REQUIREMENT TO THE A/E AND PROVIDE ONE 6000 LB ELEVATOR, WHICH WE SHOULD DISCUSS WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO MEET AND INCLUDE IN THEIR PRICING. Some of the finishes would be limited but I would presume acceptable to a hospital Again, MRL in lieu of machine room above Note we are doing this on another federal project in Toledo where overhead machine rooms were spec d ANSWER: THERE IS A MACHINE ROOM AVAILABLE IN THE PROJECT. WE ARE NOT ADDING MACHINE ROOMS ON THE ROOF. IF WE END UP WITH A MACHINE ROOM LESS UNIT, AND IF THE VA IS IN AGREEMENT WITH THE SUBSTITUTION, THEN WE ACCEPT THE CHANGE. The pan slab pans are shown at 2 4 with an 8 joist. Standard slab pans are 2 6 with a 6 joist. This would result in all pans being custom ordered. Please advise. ANSWER: REGARDING THE PAN JOISTS, WE ARE SHOWING 2 -6 PAN AND 6 JOIST. NOT SURE WHERE THEY ARE GETTING 2 -4 AND 8 . SEE DETAIL BELOW. ANSWER: COMPARE THE EXTERIOR ELEVATIONS AND THE SECTIONS AND THE WINDOW SCHEDULE / DETAIL SHEETS. THE EXTERIOR ELEVATIONS SHOW GREY SHADED LITES THAT ARE METAL FACED SPANDREL, WHICH CORRESPONDS TO THE SECTIONS. SEE IMAGE BELOW.
