- Description
- Subject: VIC MS60 Leak Detector Repair Reference Number: NB136000-23-01989 Notice Type: Notice of Intent Sole Source 1. Description: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole sources basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), Vacuum Instrument Corporation (VIC) LLC, 2101 9th Ave, Ronkonkoma, NY 11799-6282, to procure contractor support repair services to NIST MS60 machine. VIC is the original equipment manufacturer and is the only vendor with expertise, testing equipment, and parts to repair the device as required. The requested vendor is the only one that can certify the machine has returned to the designed accuracy and functionality. 2. Background: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Fabrication Technology Office (FTO) provides a wide range of engineering, fabrication and technical services to support the creation of unique measurement instruments and scientific apparatus needed by researchers in the NIST's Measurement and Standards Laboratories. FTO provides the mission critical engineering and manufacturing expertise and equipment needed to produce specialized parts and subassemblies for the extraordinary variety of one-of-a-kind instruments conceived by NIST scientists and engineers. FTOs primary line of service is metal fabrication, mechanical engineering, and electromechanical assembly. This service is used to engineer and fabricate high precision components and assemblies for use in one-of-a-kind measurement instruments conceived by NIST scientists and engineers. FTO depends on its installed base of manufacturing technology to support the many service needs of its customers. This manufacturing technology base includes a full family of automated and conventional milling machines, lathes, grinders, electrical discharge machines, boring mills and other related manufacturing equipment. FTO requires maintenance service and repairs of our Vacuum Instrument Corporation (VIC) MS60 leak detector. Currently this device is unable to maintain the precision and repeatability expected from this equipment, rendering them unusable to meet FTO customer needs. Removal of this machine compromises our operations. This machine will require a VIC certified technician to disassemble, evaluate, repair, reassemble, and calibrate this machine to correct problems and inaccuracies. Interested parties that believe they could satisfy the requirements listed above shall clearly identify their capability to do so in writing on or before 10 July 2023 at 12:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. This notice of intent is not a solicitation. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether competitive procedures could be used for this acquisition.
