Description

The Cepheid diagnostics system is a fully automated molecular diagnostic platform that uses real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technology to detect and identify a wide range of pathogens. The system is designed to be used in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and point-of-care locations. Supplies and technical support for the Cepheid system for PCR testing to allow for reduced turn around due to NHC Oak Harbor�s location restrictions. The tests available on the Cepheid analyzer include respiratory infections, blood virology, women's and sexual health, Tuberculosis and emerging infectious diseases, healthcare-associated infectious diseases, oncology and human genetics. The availability of these tests at NHC Oak Harbor due to its remote location will increase patient testing capabilities and reduce delays from collection to result. A system is needed to test for respiratory and sexually transmitted disease infectious agents that is more rapid than the existing method of collection and out-shipping. The current method in place delays patient results by up to 14 days. With a PCR system that is already in place being approved for a maintenance contract, site would be able to perform same day testing and have patient results within 2-3 hours enabling providers to provide care at the same day/time as patients appointments. The equipment is already in place.
