- Description
- United States Agency International Development (USAID)/Namibia leads the prevention portfolio for the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in-country program while also having the largest community portfolio. Implementing partners are primarily local entities operating under the leadership of the Government of the Republic of Namibia (GRN). For Financial Year (FY) 2023, the value of the USAID Health Office portfolio is approximately $38 million invested in ensuring equitable access to quality health and social services for persons vulnerable to, affected by, or living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). USAID/Namibia is a team of 35 professionals and part of the USAID Southern Africa Regional Mission based in Pretoria, South Africa. The Health Office collaborates closely with other United States Government (USG) agencies to implement PEPFAR, especially the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Health Office staff are active participants in PEPFAR policy and program design, and chair interagency technical working groups. PEPFAR Namibia is oriented toward strategic partnership with all levels of the GRN across multiple ministries, with an emphasis on sustaining Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) epidemic control through well-capacitated and efficient Namibian systems and structures. The Government of Namibia is the custodian of the national HIV response and PEPFAR is a primary partner in the goal of an Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome(AIDS)-free generation by 2030. Enhancing the availability, quality, and use of community-based health and social services to sustain HIV epidemic control is a priority for Namibia. The Community Continuum of Care Advisor plays a critical, cross-cutting role that affects the direction and progress of USAID in Namibia and the PEPFAR program.
