Description
The 2020 Mangum fire damaged approximately 53 miles of allotment fencing on the North Kaibab Ranger District. The purposes of this project are to: 1. Remove all damaged fence wire and 2. Install new wire to return the fence to like new condition. The total length of this project is approximately 17,400 feet. Specifically, this project includes: Clearing workable right-of-way (approximately 17,400) along the damaged portion of two fences. Note: (This right-of-way was cleared in 2021 and 2022. Only a minimal amount of clearing is anticipated to be needed for this project). Remove and properly dispose of all burned wire and steel fence material from the existing fences. Note: (These fences were partially reconstructed in 2021 and 2022. Most of the needed bracing and post replacement was completed at that time. The primary objective of this project is to remove and replace the burned wire). Replace approximately 17,400 of barbed and smooth wire to return fences to like new condition. All new fencing materials will be supplied by the Kaibab NF at the Tanglefoot work center in Fredonia, AZ. Contractor will be required to transport materials from Tanglefoot to the project site and transport all removed and unused new fence material back to the Tanglefoot work center. Based on negotiated agreements, a skid-steer mountable wire roller and post driver may be provided by the Forest Service to facilitate removal and installation/repair of subject fences. Location: The projects are located approximately 35 miles east of Fredonia, AZ along the Cooper Ridge area of the Kaibab Plateau.
