Description
The Botswana Deputy Health Office Director fills a key management role. The Deputy Health Office Director supports the evolution of the health program and plays a key role in developing strategies and annual operational plans for the program. The Deputy represents USAID in the USG interagency leadership team and engages at a senior level with relevant health and development partners, including government counterparts and relevant line Ministry leadership, other development partners, and private sector partners, to advance the PEPFAR and USAID�s development objectives. The incumbent will provide management support to the Health Office and back-up to the Health Office Director, as necessary.� The Deputy Director also oversees USAID/Botswana�s PEPFAR portfolio of health systems strengthening activities to deliver impact on USAID�s health systems strengthening investments and to achieve and sustain HIV epidemic control. USAID/Botswana�s system strengthening portfolio is broad and currently includes community systems, supply chain, health care financing, human resources for health, civil society strengthening, and support to District Health Management Teams.� The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating with the Ministry of Health, and other Ministries, and supporting current and new initiatives, such as the roll-out of the community health workers guidelines, revitalizing primary health care, and decentralization, among others. The Deputy is responsible for the direct supervision and mentoring of internationally and locally employed professional and administrative staff. S/he supports the Office Director with ensuring that USAID�s PEPFAR program is in line with policy requirements and priorities, including leveraging existing USAID programming to advance leadership priorities, as relevant. The Deputy regularly liaises with technical and subject matter experts from USAID�s Office of HIV/AIDS (OHA) in Washington and USAID�s Regional Health Office in Pretoria to facilitate high quality technical assistance provision to advance program goals.� Together with the Health Office Director, the incumbent represents USAID/Botswana�s health programming to the Embassy Front Office, USAID/Southern Africa Mission leadership, and State/Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD) leadership. In the absence of the Health Office Director and/or upon request, the Deputy will serve as the Acting Health Office Director. As requested, the Deputy accompanies the Ambassador on high level engagements and serves as the control officer for other high-level visits to Botswana.
