Description
The United States Government (USG) Army Contracting Command Redstone Arsenal (ACC-RSA) is seeking to continue the production and manufacture of the AH-64E Radar Frequency Interferometer (RFI). The current, GEN II RFI is a digital receiver system with integrated interferometer capability. It provides accurate information as battlefield conditions evolve while receiving intentional electromagnetic interference. The GEN II RFI provides rapid threat target acquisition, location, and identification. The GEN II RFI prosecutes threats at long ranges thereby allowing the aircrew time to react and ensuring weapon systems lethality and aircraft survivability. The Army user has an objective requirement for the RFI to provide Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) reports to the aircrew. Trade space between the threshold requirement and objective requirement is dependent on funding and schedule. The system automatically performs target acquisition and cueing for Fire Control RADAR (FCR) and Target Acquisition and Designation Sight (TADS) systems in the AH-64E Apache Attack helicopter. It also delivers warnings of radar directed anti-aircraft threats and serves as the controller for an integrated aircraft survivability equipment (ASE) system. The system provides high receiver sensitivity and precision interferometer angle of attack in a lightweight, modular configuration suitable for airborne or ground-based platforms, both manned and unmanned. The system can operate independently or integrated with other sensors to provide enhanced aircrew situational awareness. The GEN II RFI is a fully operational flightworthy system and is installed on AH-64E aircraft in both Domestic and International configurations. The GEN II RFI processor is in the left Extended Forward Avionics Bay (EFAB) and the antenna and receiver is mounted above the rotor to provide the best threat signal reception while allowing the aircraft to be in defilade. The system is installed on either the FCR Mast Mounted Assembly (MMA) or the Manned Unmanned Teaming (MUMT) antenna. The GEN II RFI, as a function of component obsolescence, may be refreshed using innovative approaches to the extent necessary to address obsolescence and thereby ensuring continued compatibility with the modern battlefield.
