Description
THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR BID PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. Project Details: CO FLAP CHA CR300(1) Browns Canyon NM Access Road Chaffee County Road 300 (CR300) provides access to the Arkansas River, the Browns Canyon National Monument, and to the Ruby Mountain Campground. Additionally, commercial rafting companies use this road for a boat launch during the white-water rafting season. This 0.10-mile section of CR 300 is gravel surfaced. The existing typical width is 17-22 feet, except for a short narrow 12-foot section (the Narrows) located at the crest of a vertical curve in the middle of a horizontal curve. This section is bordered by a rock cut on the north and the Arkansas River on the south. The posted speed limit of the roadway is 25 miles per hour (mph). The Narrows has deficient sight distance and inadequate geometry due to the proximity of the rock cut to the edge of the roadway, making it difficult for two-way traffic to pass safely. This resurfacing, restoration, rehabilitation, and reconstruction (4R) project has steep terrain with construction impact elevations ranging from 7636 to 7720 feet. There is only one base schedule, Schedule A. SCOPE OF THE WORK: The scope of this project is to widen the 0.10 miles of the existing roadway to a consistent 22-foot-wide gravel surface and provide geometry and sight distance improvements along the project corridor. To help limit the amount of excavation into the mountain, the design speed was reduced from the posted 25 mph to 20 mph. The section will be posted with an advisory speed limit of 20 mph. The project corridor has difficult and limited working areas, geotechnical hazards, and more technical work elements to include: Blasting adjacent to environmental sensitive resources Rock scaling near environmental sensitive resources High level of stakeholder coordination, along with associated scrutiny during construction activities PRINCIPAL WORK ITEMS: 15701-0000 SOIL EROSION CONTROL, Lump Sum 20401-0000 ROADWAY EXCAVATION, 5750 cubic yards 25101-0200 PLACED RIPRAP, METHOD A, CLASS 2, 80 cubic yards 26001-0000 ROCK BOLT, 50 linear feet 26002-0000 ROCK DOWEL, 50 linear feet 30202-2100 ROADWAY AGGREGATE, METHOD 2, SURFACE COURSE,450 ton 62201-0200 DUMP TRUCK, 8 CUBIC YARD MINIMUM CAPACITY, 40 hour It is anticipated this project will be advertised in March, 2024 and be under construction September 2024 through December 2024. Due to recreation activities, ground disturbances and traffic delays are not permitted from May to Labor Day. ESTIMATED COST RANGE: The estimated price range of the project work is between $700,000 and $2,000,000.
