Description
UPDATE, 1 Jul 24 - Clarification for RFI received late. - THE SCHEDULED BID OPENING WILL NOT CHANGE. - QUESTION:Due to the height of the building (over 50) the design criteria in NFPA 13 will require a 10 underground lead in and at least a 2000 gpm fire pump. - RESPONSE: Regarding the NFPA 13 requirement, this was not something new that was added in Addendum 02. This requirement was in the original specification documents. Specifically, Section 21 13 00. Additionally, sheet FP 1.0 of the drawings show a fire pump over 2000 gpm. The inlet feed to the building was based on hydraulic calculations. The current drawing shows an 8 main feed. If the contractors hydraulic calculations require a 10 feed, if necessary, that change could be made. Drawings and ESFR head selection was based on a rough site measurement of 40 storage height and 45 building height to meet NFPA 13 requirements. Some have stated the building height is 52. In this case a different K factor head may be required. The pump flow, however, would still not exceed the 2100 gpm pump flow listed on the original drawings. If this is a concern, there is a recommendation to use a soft start fire pump. However, a starter was not listed on drawings and is left to the fire sprinkler contractors choice. -NO ADDITIONAL CHANGES ARE MADE.
