Description
Dyke Marsh Restoration and Stabilization, Phase I Rehabilitation, Alexandria, VAThe overall goal of the project is to protect and stabilize the tidal freshwater marsh and other associated wetland habitats that have been lost or impacted in the Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve on the Potomac River in Virginia. The project will protect the productive emergent wetlands that were dredged or lost to subsequent erosion. The project also seeks to maintain the integrity and health of the existing marsh. Once completed, the project will allow the dynamic tidal freshwater Dyke Marsh Preserve to function, provide ecosystem services and wildlife habitat, and offer recreation opportunities. USACE have constructed Stone Sill to protect the shoreline in two phases. The project provided needed the stability of 45-50 acres of emergent marsh within Dyke Marsh Preserve giving the marsh resiliency against high storm surge and tidal events, thus protecting adjacent park and private real estate interests. The Stone Sill installed under Phase 1 has settled since it was completed in January of 2020. National Park Service has requested that additional rock be added to the top of the sill so that it will function as designed. The purpose of this contract is to conduct rehabilitation work on the Stone Sill constructed under Phase 1, specifically add stone to the areas with settlement, and bring it back to its original design.
