The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. Within the NIAID, the Research Technologies Section (RTS) provides intramural scientists with state-of-the-art facilities and expertise in flow cytometry, microscopy and genomics. The RTS Flow Cytometry Unit regularly performs state-of-the-art research for clinicians and researchers within the DIR towards the NIAID goal of discovery of new diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines against disease. Project Description: The RTS Flow Cytometry unit currently uses biosafety cabinet to safely conduct experiments in the BSL 3 on behalf of all the NIAID DIR scientists. This acquisition is to replace a broken biosafety cabinet that holds sorting instruments and is used to process BSL-3 samples. The Baker cabinet currently matches the exterior footprint of the old cabinet, so no modifications or alterations to the space are needed. This cabinet also has the interior space to hold the required equipment, and it has the custom HEPA filters needed to maintain the safety of the space. Using this cabinet will protect the laboratory's current investment in both the equipment and the research in progress. The current requirements are as follows: BioPROTECT e3 MAX, vented to room, quantity 1 Installation CPD Authorized Baker Installer Features: ""Walk-in"" biosafety cabinet, featuring Class II performance for containment and protection The sidewall and rear wall plenum are under negative pressure Available in 3 standard widths with additional options available for extra deep or extra tall configurations Instrument table is adjustable, designed to accommodate multiple heights for user access points and varying sizes of instruments Allows roll in cart, for instrument loading and service Space in the base for fluidics and other ancillary equipment Designed for high-volume robotic and automated equipment applications Accommodates high-throughput robotic systems (including ancillary devices), ultra-centrifuges, flow cytometers, liquid handlers and other large pieces of laboratory equipment Ideal for high-throughput screening, combinatorial chemistry, drug discovery, immunology, tissue culture, clinical research, molecular biology and quality control assays Product protection: HEPA-filtered, particulate-free airflow throughout the work area provides an ISO Class 5 environment and minimizes cross contamination Personnel protection: Intake velocity of 100 fpm [0.5 m/s] into front suctions grilles located in the access doors preventing escape of potentially hazardous aerosols and particulate Environmental protection: The cabinets internal fan provides HEPA filtered exhaust flow from the cabinet The exhaust can be vented back into the lab space or connected to the building exhaust system with a canopy exhaust connection should volatile toxic compounds be present Containment and Protection External Dimensions: Width Standard 116.88"" Depth 61.63"" Height 102.5"" Place of Performance: NIH, Building 33, 33 North Drive, Bethesda, MD 20892, United States. FOB: Destination The statutory authority for this sole source requirement is 41 U.S.C. 253 (c) (1) as implemented by FAR 13.106-1 only one responsible source and no other supply of service will satisfy agency requirements.
