Description
As Cte dIvoire transitions into an emerging economy after decades of economic and political instability, the country continues to face significant health challenges. HIV prevalence is now 1.8 percent in the general population and much higher among key and priority populations. This corresponds to a significant decrease from 3.5 percent in 2012, due to the significant efforts placed in the different HIV programs including in commodities and supply chain to assure improved availability of commodities to initiate and retain positive people on treatment and thus reduce transmission, one contributing factor to increase prevalence. The total fertility rate is 4.3 children per woman. According to the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) 2021, the modern contraceptive prevalence rate is estimated at 18 percent and 22 percent of women have an unmet need for family planning services. Several endemic neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) still cause pain and suffering throughout the country. And malaria is still the first cause of morbidity and mortality among children and continues to be the top reason for medical consultations and hospitalizations. Given this context, the USAIDs Cte dIvoire health sector portfolio has expanded in recent years from exclusively HIV/AIDS related activities through PEPFAR, to a broader health sector platform. Several other global initiatives are currently being implemented including the Global Health Security Agenda and the Presidents Malaria Initiative. USAID / Cote dIvoire has a growing family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH), maternal and child health (MCH) and immunization, and Neglected Tropical Disease portfolio. Heightened emphasis on strengthening local capacities in leadership, governance, and sustainability of health programs, systems and services are also USAID global health priorities currently under implementation The basic function of the position is to provide senior level technical expertise and leadership as well as support program management and coordination related to planning, implementation, and monitoring of program commodities and supply chain activities including a range of procurement and logistics functions. On average, USAID spends an estimated $24 million annually for technical assistance, procurement, management and distribution of HIV, malaria, Tuberculosis, FP and other life-saving commodities in Cte dIvoire .
