- Summary: Medical Gas Evaluation Base plus 4 Option Years Description of Work: The contractor will provide the following services: This project consists of all the following and must comply with NFPA 99 latest edition. This work is in Building 1 and Building 7 along with the bulk oxygen tank at the VA Medical Center, Beckley WV. Complete inventory of all outlets/inlets will be produced Area, floor & room number will be identified Manufacturer/model of outlets/inlets will be identified Flow rate & gas concentration will be tested on each available outlet Flow rate will be tested on each available vacuum/WAGD inlet 0.45-micron filter sample will be collected at one outlet in each critical care zone 0.45-micron filter sample will be collected in 20% of non-critical care zones Pressure drop will be tested once per zone Average flow rate in each zone will be documented Pressure or vacuum level will be documented on each zone Mechanical integrity, adaptation will be verified on each available outlet and inlet All leaks, missing parts or other relevant observations will be noted Preventive Maintenance Program: for Medical Air Compressor and Vacuum Pump system, to be completed on a semi-annual schedule. Documentation of completed PM s will be submitted to VA for record. Source Evaluation: Bulk Medical Oxygen System Visually inspect bulk site Compare system to current NFPA 99 & NFPA 55 standard Capacity Enclosure/Location Check system components for leakage Fire safety considerations Provide documentation of all inspection results Medical Gas Manifolds Visually inspect all medical gas supply manifolds Compare manifold to current NFPA 99 standard Enclosure/Location Capacity Document Manufacturer/Model information Check cylinder connections for leakage Check manifold components for leakage Provide documentation of all inspection results Medical Vacuum Systems Visually inspect vacuum system Compare system to current NFPA 99 standard Capacity Visually observe system for proper operation Document Manufacturer/Model information Verify exhaust piping location Provide documentation of all inspection results Master Alarm Panels Locate each Master Alarm panel List each individual existing signal as labeled on panel Identify all required signals that are missing Test button on each panel will be activated Verify function of audible alert Note any nonfunctional LED s or Lights Document Manufacturer/Model information Note number of blank modules & spare signals Provide documentation of all inspection results Area Alarm Panels Locate each Area Alarm panel Test button on each panel will be activated Document manufacturer information Note gas, pressures & area served as displayed on panel Verify function of audible alert Provide documentation of all inspection results Medical Gas Zone Valves Locate each medical gas zone valve Document manufacturer information Note pressure displayed on gauge Document valve type, size, gauge & indicated pressure Valves will be checked for external leaks Identify rooms served by each valve to the extent possible during the inspection process Area of work is in the main hospital, Building 7 and bulk tank storage. All work will be performed during and after normal working hours. All work will be in accordance with VA Master Specifications. Tasks will be performed at the VAMC Beckley, WV. Work will be in an occupied health care facility in operation 24 hours a day and care must be provided to keep work areas clean and contained. The contractor will be responsible for storage of materials and disposal of all unused materials. The contractor will ensure that all sub-contractors meet and abide by all government regulations and requirements to include 10-hour OSHA Training.
