COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 6,1995 PSA#1257Office of Naval Research, 800 North Quincy Street Arlington, VA
22217-5660 A -- CELL ADHESION MOLECULE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES POC Point of
Contact: D. VanMetre, ONR 251B (703) 696-4525. The Office of Naval
Research is initiating a short-term research program on cell adhesion
molecules in order to better understand the role of these molecules in
inflammatory reactions such as allergic rhinitis and atopic allergic
conditions. In accordance with Congressional language, this research
should be performed by an integrated team of scientists affiliated with
a non-profit foundation in the northeast (north of Virginia, west to
Ohio) with extensive experience in the molecular analysis of the immune
system. In particular, the scientific team must have extensive
experience in the identification and analysis of cell adhesion factors,
signal transduction pathways, cytokine production and gene regulation.
This is a Broad Agency Announcement. There is no request for proposal
nor any other formal application document. It is not the intent of
this program to establish new facilities, rather, non-profit
foundations in the appropriate geographic area having demonstrated
research capability and appropriate facilities are invited to submit
three copies of a preproposal not exceeding three pages of text that
describes: a) the research objective, b) the proposed research
approach, c) related work by the proposer, d) the anticipated
contribution to the Office of Naval Research program, e) an estimate of
overall costs (including indirect) for a 1 to 1.5-year effort. Direct
costs may include capital equipment. A curriculum vitae of the
principal investigator(s) should be appended together with any
supporting information, such as reprints or preprints, that assists in
the evaluation of the preproposal. Preproposal submissions will be
evaluated on the basis of innovativeness, focus, and integrated team
strengths. Full formal proposals for competitive review will be
requested based on those submissions judged most relevant to the
program objectives, proposal deadline dates and format instructions
will be provided at that time. The deadline for preproposals is 7
February 1995. Technical questions should be directed and preproposals
should be sent to: Dr. Constance Oliver, ONR 341, Office of Naval
