COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 9,1995 PSA#1258Brookhaven National Laboratory, Division of Contracts and Procurement,
Building 355, P.O. Box 5000, Upton, N.Y. 11973-5000 66 -- PET CAMERA SOL RFQ No. 743656. Contact: J. Small, Sr. Contracts
Specialist, 516-282-2141. Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) intends
to purchase one PET Camera in accordance with Brookhaven's technical
specification. Presently BNL operates a CTI-931 PET tomograph with a
throughput of over 450 research subjects per year. Our research program
centers on the following areas: molecular mechanisms underlying
neurological and psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, neurochemical
organization of the brain, the development of new radiotracers to
expand the application of PET technology, and the evaluation and
characteristics of new pharmaceuticals (technology transfer). In order
to remain in the forefront in these areas and to approach our goal of
becoming a regional center for the application of medical imaging to
the study of molecular mechanisms in disease and drug therapy, a
machine with state-of-the-art characteristics is required. The
characteristics we require include the following performance limits:
(1) Transaxial resolution at 0 cm a maximum of 4.5 mm and at 10 cm a
maximum of 5.8 mm. (2) Axial resolution at 0 cm a maximum of 4.8 mm and
at 10 cm a maximum of 6.0 mm. (3) Sensitivity with Septa in a minimum
of 185 Kcps/micro Ci/cc and with Septa out a minimum of 1,000
Kcps/micro Ci/cc. (4) A minimum of 35 slices. (5) Axial field of view
with a minimum of 15 cm. (6) Crystal Type for detectors shall be BGO.
BNL also require the ability to acquire and display whole body
3-dimensional data and the software to define volumes of interest on
these images and compute quantitative time versus activity
representations. In addition, the new machine requires greater storage
capacity and speed of reconstruction to allow a significantly
increased throughput. Requests for a copy of this solicitation must be
in writing or faxed and received within fourteen (14) days after
publication in the Commerce Business Daily. Contact Mr. John C. Small,
