71 -- FURNISH AND INSTALL MOVABLE COMPACT SHELVING SOL 52SBNB5C8559 DUE 012395 POC Barbara Camp (301) 975-6339, Ruth Maris The Research Information Center (RIC) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, MD has a requirement for a Contractor to furnish and install movable compact shelving for one of its storage areas. The Contractor shall furnish trained labor, materials, equipment, special tools and services, required to provide a complete and usable ''mechanical'' movable compact shelving system. The area where the movable compact shelving will be installed is 20 ft. by 50 ft., with a ceiling height of 10.5 ft. The lights are 9.5 ft. above the floor level. There are doors, columns, and walls which will restrict the use of the space. Rails shall be designed and manufactured to carry a minimum carriage load of 1,000 pounds per linear foot of carriage. Carriages are to be capable of supporting a minimum load of 1,000 pounds per carriage foot without distorting in any manner. The dimensions and strength of the shelving is to be sufficient to store books, bound journals, and other typical library materials (36'' wide and 20'' deep). The maximum combined height of the carriage and shelving are not to exceed 8 feet. Basic requirements for safety features are that the features are reliable; that the entire module is deactivated when a patron is in an aisle; or an object of 50 pounds is placed on the floor of the aisle. Safety features shall be designed so that the system will not crush a book, book truck, or other light object left on the floor of the aisle. The installation is to include a minimum one-year warranty to cover all structural and moving parts, labor, shipping, and travel costs associated with system repair or replacement of parts. Contractors are to submit a technical proposal with details of each of the components, including: floor deflection and design of flooring, rails, maximum weight carriages designed to carry weight without distortion, the design and materials of the wheels, drive shaft, type and structure of shelving, and safety features. This acquisition is for a base year with one (maintenance ) option year. Delivery and installation is required within 30-60 days after award of the contract, FOB Destination. There will be a site visit in Gaithersburg, MD, approximately 15 days after issuance of solicitation. The date of the site visit will be announced in the solicitation.
