Number 52-PAPT-5-00017 is for tracking purposes only. The U.S. Patent
and Trademark Office has used it to identify a Sources Sought synopsis
for vendors capable of providing a Network Tape Backup System that
will provide backup and restore services for a LAN consisting of
numerous Unix servers running various vendor Unix systems. This system
shall: 1) consist of hardware (i.e. tape carousel, tape stacker,
autoloader, or similar technology) that is SCSI attachable for a HP
9000 Model 877S and/or sun Sparc System; 2) back up a minimum of 40 GB
in unattended operations; 3) have tape drives with a minmum 200
Kilobytes per second sustained data transfer rate; 4) be able, through
software, to allow SunOS 3.x, SunOS 4.x, HP-UX 9.x, SCO ODT 3.x, and
Sequent PTX/DYNIX 2.0.x client operating systems to do network backups
to the host supporting the tape hardware; 5) back up at least 25
clients; 6) shall give the user the option of reading/writing data
to/from the system's tapes in at least dump, tar, or cpio Unix data
formats; and include all software needed to perform the above
functions. Also sought are comments concerning those characteristics
and conditions, for example, comments as the the feasibility and
appropriateness of the acquisition. Note especially that this
announcement is for ''informational purposes only,'' that no
solicitation document identified by the above number exists, and that
a requirement for the above material does not exist at this time. Prior
to preparing a formal Request for Proposals (RFP), all written
responses to this Sources Sought received prior to the response due
date of Friday, February 20, 1995 will be considered. Responses should
