99 -- 99--NEXT GENERATION FLATS SORTERS SOL MS-95-001 DUE 030395 POC Mary Ann Smith, Purchasing Specialist, 703-280-7806. The USPS is in search of sources for the Next Generation Flats Sorters. The flats sorter shall have a transport capable of processing 10,000 flats per hour to approximately 100 destination bins with an optional tray takeaway system to automatically transport full trays to one or two locations of the machine. It shall include at least 4 manual input stations. It is desirable that it include the capability to integrate a Postnet barcode reader and an automatic flats feeder for processing pre-barcoded mail. It shall process as much of the USPS flat mail as possible. The USPS mail base contains flats with the dimension of 4'' to 15.75'' length, 4'' to 12'' width, .007'' to 1.250'' thickness, and 0.01 lb to 6 lb. weight. The mail can be of the following types: envelopes, magazines, (with and without sleeves), digest size (5.25'' x 7.5''), newspapers, polywrapped flats, padded envelopes, flimsy, single sheet fliers, and video tapes or compact disks in boxes. Contact the USPS Automation Procurement office if your organization currently produces flats sorters which meet these requirements, and provide detailed information about the equipment and its deployment. We are interested in equipment which is already operational and processing flat mail in a live postal environment. (0011)
