70 -- MODIFY STORAGETEK 4400 AUTOMATED CARTRIDGE SYSTEM POC Shirley Shoemaker (301) 975-6337 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to purchase on a sole source basis from Storage Technology Corporation, 12510 Prosperity Drive, Third Floor, Silver Spring, MD 20904; a modification to NIST-owned components of the StorageTek Model 4400 Automated Cartridge System (ACS). This requirement consists of: (1) Upgrading one (1) StorageTek 4480M20 controller to 4490M30, (2) Upgrading one (1) StorageTek 4781M20 controller to 4791M30, and (3) Upgrading one (1) StorageTek 4480M24 tape units to 4490M34. The outage required to make the modifications shall be scheduled for a time approved by NIST. The modifications are to be completed by April 1, 1995. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. NIST intends to solicit one source under authority of FAR 6.302-1, only one responsible source and no other supplies will satisfy agency requirements. Only written proposals received within 45 days after date of publication of this synopsis shall be considered. Responses received as a result of this notice will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Responses shall contain sufficient documentation to establish a bonafide capability to fulfill the requirements. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
