meters in length) and substructure work for a bridge (at two sites, 150
meters); total length 2,737 meters; width - Highway portion 10.50
meters X 1, bridge portion 9.00 meters X 1, tunnel portion 9 50 meters
X 1; earth work volume 340,000 cubic meters; tunnel at one site 1,280
meters; bridge - substructure work only at two sites 150 meters, 4
abutments, 4 piers; foundation work - concrete compaction piles (1 0
meter in diameter, 180 meters in length), caisson-type piles (2 0
meters in diameter, 14 meters in length), caisson-type piles (2 5
meters in diameter, 59 meters in length), caisson-type piles (3 0
meters in diameter, 19 meters in length); and cross structure - culvert
boxes at eight sites, culvert pipes at two sites; 4) Construction
period 1,110 days; 5) main materials to be used approx. 18,000 cubic
meters of concrete, approx 600 tons of reinforcing steel, approx 500
tons of asphalt compounds, approx. 400 meters of guard Rail; 6)

firms qualified to participate in this project's bidding must satisfy
all of the following conditions and have their qualifications for this
project's bidding screened and confirmed by the Director of the
Takamatsu Construction Bureau 1) firms that do not fall under article
4 of the contract regulations of Japan Highway Public Corporation; 2)
firms pre-qualified for open competitive tendering on Road and earth
work by the Takamatsu Construction Bureau of Japan Highway Public
Corporation for fy 93/94, and consortia comprised of two qualified
firms; 3) firms that have -- in the past five years (since 1989) as the
main contractor -- actually carried out Construction of a tunnel of at
least 1 0 kilometer in length and at least 50 square meters in
dbsigned inner Section by the '' natm'' method note: only Construction
projects in which bidder has had a 30 percent or greater share are
eligible for consideration, and in the case of a consortium, all member
firms must have a similar experience; 4) firms that can assign to the
Construction site a field Representative or a full-time chief engineer
or engineering supervisor who meets the following criteria has had
experience of tunneling by the ''natm'' method as field Representative
or as chief engineer or engineering supervisor in the past five years
(since 1989); 5) firms not suspended from designation in no 7 zone by
Japan Highway Public Corporation; 6) in the case of a consortium, each
member firm must satisfy the following criteria a) has been in
operation for at least five years in qualified business under the
Construction business law; B) can assign to the Construction site a
full- time engineering supervisor qualified for this project under the
Construction business law or a full- time nationally-licensed chief
engineer; and C) has an at least 30 percent share of involvement, and
the Representative firm must have the greatest share firms
pre-qualified by the Construction minister regarding items (a) and (B)
in evaluation of their management operation s are exempted from these
criteria; and 7) firms not related by capital or personnel to the
contractors involved in this project (see Tender documents for details)
