Fisheries Service, Northeast Fisheries Center has a requirement for the
charter of a coastal research vessel with crew to perform a marine
mammal survey in the northwest Atlantic. The vessel cruise dates will
be approximately August 1-30, 1995. The vessel shall not be less than
90 feet or more than 125 feet L.O.A. and have the capacity to carry ten
scientists. The vessel shall have an observation platform with a
minimum height of 40 feet off the water for spotting either a flying
bridge, a crows nest, or tower, capable of holding at least four
people. It shall have a built-in anti roll system. The vessel shall be
equipped with a satellite navigation system. Also required are VHF,
UHF, and aircraft radios, weather fax machine, LORAN and RADAR. VHF
marine band channels 1-72. The vessel shall meet or exceed all USCG
Db(A) interior noise levels for vessels of 500 tons or greater. The
vessel shall have bow and stern thrusters or an equivalent capable of
rotating the vessel in approximately its own length, laboratory space
of at least 100 square feet and scientific freezer and refrigerator
space of at least 30 square feet. Survival suits for each scientist and
safety equipment. The vessel shall be equipped with an inflatable
motorized launch of approximately 18 feet in length with a system for
deployment and recovery. The launch shall be powered with a minimum of
a fifty horsepower outboard motor. General Liability Insurance and
Coast Guard certification are also required. The principal place of
performance will be the Gulf of Maine - Bay of Fundy area, with
research commencing in Woods Hole, MA) The cruises may originate and
terminate in Woods Hole, MA or other parts northeast of Woods Hole, MA.
The track lines will be determined by the chief scientist. All
responsible sources may submit a bid which will be considered. No
