The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes, and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) intends to contract on a sole source basis with IGEN, Incorporated the only manufacturer of The ORIGEN Electrochemiluminescence Analyzer, with Vortex Sample Carousel, Compaq Presario PC with Cable, HP-520 Inkjet Printer and ORIOS Software. IGEN, Incorporated 1530 East Jefferson Street Rockville, MD 20852. IGEN, Incorporated holds the patent on the instrumentation and the specific labeling reagent for proteins and holds all rights on distribution of both. The NIH believes the proposed contractor is the only source available as it is uniquely qualified to provide the subject instrument. The applications would be primarily for quantitative research and clinical work. In trials done within NIDDK, the instrument yielded a greatly improved range sensitivity over RIA and enzyme-linked immunoassays and permitted processing of samples more easily and efficiently. It also permits the investigator to design assays on a custom basis without depending on the use of special kits. To date, there is no other comparable instrument available. This is not a formal solicitation however, concerns that respond should furnish detailed data concerning their capabilities demonstrating the offeror ability to provide the equipment needed.
