Kesling, (304) 285-4490 The Department of Energy's (DOE) Morgantown Energy Technology Center (METC) announces the availability of a Program Research and Development Announcement (PRDA), Solicitation No. DE-AC21-95MC32062, entitled ''Recovery and Utilization of Coal Mine Methane''. This PRDA is focused on methane released from minable or adjacent coals affected by the mining process, and demonstrating applicable methods for effectively recovering and utilizing significant quantities of coal mine methane with existing technologies. This project will be divided into two phases. The Phase I feasibility study will evaluate the gas resource associated with mining and identify and evaluate various gas utilization technologies which are proposed as a detailed conceptual design for a pilot demonstration effort in Phase II. It is anticipated that multiple awards will be made for Phase I with a portion of the effort to be set aside for small businesses. Phase II will consist of a detailed conceptual design for a pilot demonstration of the technology system/s identified in Phase I for commercializing this resource and substantially reducing methane emissions associated with coal mining.
