Environmental Protection Agency, Research Triangle Park, N.C. 27711 A -- ENERGY OPTIMIZATION CONTROLS FOR ALTERNATING CURRENT INDUCTION
MOTORS SOL AEERL-5-25 DUE 030695 POC M. P. Huneycutt, Extramural
Coordinator, 919-541-2903. The Environmental Protection Agency, under
the authority of the Clean Air Act, Section 102(b), and in cooperation
with the Departments of Energy and Defense, wishes to stimulate
research, development, and testing to increase the efficiency of large
alternating current induction motors. Fuzzy logic based controllers
for small electric motors have shown efficiency gains of up to 20%. EPA
is now considering providing partial funding for the design and testing
of controllers for 100 horse power and larger motors. EPA can also
provide access to federal facilities with large numbers of such large
electric motors on which to test newly developed high efficiency
controllers. Non-profit and not- for-profit research and educational
institutions who have expertise in this area and who are willing to
share in the costs of such a project may obtain information on EPA's
plans by writing to the above address by January 27, 1995, to request
a copy of solicitation AEERL 5-25. Oral requests will not be accepted.
