A -- RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT SOL 9BC4-25-402P POC DAVID CULP, Tel:713-483-6027 Contracting Officer:NANCY LIOUNIS, Tel:713-483-1865 The Government contemplates awarding a contract for the Orbiter operations support and the payloads and systems integration support for a period of nine months. The new contract will be a continuation of work performed by Rockwell International, Space Systems Division, Downey, California, under contracts NAS 9-18400, NAS 9-18500 and NAS 9-18600. The effort will be performed at the Johnson Space Center (JSC), Houston, Texas, Kennedy Space Center, Florida and at the contractor's facilities. The operations support includes engineering support including Orbiter/ payload interface analysis and Orbiter systems database maintenance; flight operations support including flight readiness review, flight/ ground operations data acquisition, flight support, and flight readiness firing support; ground turnaround operations including requirements definition, software release schedules and configuration, primary software deliverables, and backup flight system software support; crew equipment and training support; support of JSC flight laboratories; and general Orbiter engineering analyses/studies, tests systems engineering, software and design implementation support. The payloads effort includes all work necessary to incorporate the payloads into the Orbiter and to ready those payloads and accessories for flight. The systems integration effort includes all work necessary to provide flight and ground system integration effort in support of the Space Shuttle Program. The Johnson Space Center plans to contract with Rockwell International for the above effort. See Note 22. Rockwell is the only known source with the specialized knowledge and expertise who can provide support in a manner that will not result in significant safety risks or schedule delays.
