DAN SHACKELFORD, 301-619-7216 Approximately $1 million is available for extramural research efforts on the development and testing of a new insulin derivative for the treatment of diabetes and hypoglycemia in the dependents of active duty military members. This research is being supported by a special appropriation with specific qualifying requirements. Funding will only be available to joint research partnerships involving an educational institution, not now engaged in a large volume of basic research, and a biomedical research institute, including a working arrangement with Canadian and German scientists. Proposals should be submitted using the proposal format and procedures outlined in the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command Broad Agency Announcement dated October 1994. (Do not submit preproposals.) Proposals from qualified joint research partnerships will be evaluated in accordance with the evaluation criteria published in the Broad Agency Announcement. Proposals from institutions or organizations not meeting the qualifications set forth above will not be considered.
