Naval Air Systems Command is planning to competitively procure an
Integrated Mechanical Diagnostics (IMD) system with a crash survivable
memory unit (CSMU) which shall be integrated, installed, and tested
into two (2) CH-53E helicopters for an early operational assessment by
the U.S. Navy/U.S. Marine Corps. The IMD system shall include all of
the necessary hardware and software for acquiring data in-flight to
provide predetermined on-aircraft warnings and maintenance advisories
to the aircrew and maintenance personnel. The monitor and diagnostic
functions shall include; rotor track and balance, engine performance
and diagnostics, gearbox diagnostics, high speed shaft and support
bearing monitoring, and an option for flight regime recognition
development. The IMD system shall also include a separate ground
station that shall perform post-flight analysis, data processing of
reports, maintenance diagnostics, and data archiving. The ground
station hardware and software shall be operable in the current U.S.
Navy/U.S. Marine Corps maintenance environment and shall provide
maintenance data output-type products that can be readily integrated
with U.S. Navy's/U.S. Marine Corps' maintenance concept and daily
operations. The airborne portion of the IMD system shall include
interfaces to existing CH-53E helicopter sensors, any new sensors and
applicable interfaces required, signal conditioning and data
acquisition capability for all sensors, and algorithms required to
complete all of the in-flight functions and data transfer functions to
the ground station.'' This announcement will be used to develop
bidders mailing list for contractors interested in receiving a copy of
the soliciation. A formal RFP will be released on or around March
