COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 26,1995 PSA#1270Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Livermore, CA
94550 A -- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY OFFERS FLOW-SORTED,
ARRAYED HUMAN CHROMOSOME-SPECIFIC COSMID LIBRARIES FOR SCREENING AND
CLONE DISTRIBUTION Announcement The Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under
contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is a major partner
in the National Laboratory Gene Library Project. The goal of this
project was to produce chromosome-specific cosmid libraries and to
distribute the clones to the scientific community worldwide. In a
chromosome-specific library, the cloned fragments that make up each
``library'' are derived from one of the 24 human chromosome types which
were purified by flow-sorting. The cosmid libraries have been arrayed
to a depth of at least five-fold as individual clones in 96-well
microtiter dishes, each clone having a unique identifier. LLNL has
available arrayed cosmid libraries for human chromosomes 1, 3, 7, 9,
12, 18, 21, 22, X, and Y (``Libraries''). We are looking for companies
(``Recipients'') who wish to act, on a non-exclusive basis, as
resource/distribution centers for screening these arrayed libraries and
for distributing individual clones from the library to ``End Users.''
End Users of the clones should be encouraged to make data on the use of
clones available to the scientific community by publication and
submission of data to appropriate databases. Recipients of the LLNL
arrayed cosmid libraries may not rearray the libraries so as to create
new clone identifiers, and may not transfer the libraries to any third
party without prior written consent by an authorized representative of
LLNL. The arrayed libraries will be transferred from LLNL via an
Agreement between the Recipient and The Regents of the University of
California. The Recipient will be asked to offset the costs of the
array replication and transfer (approx. $1,000 - $5,000 per array
replica). The Agreement will be coordinated through the LLNL Industrial
Partnerships and Commercialization. Recipients should note that no
license, either direct or implied, would be granted via this Agreement
to the oter University-owned intellectual property. LLNL on behalf of
the Federal Government will retain rights to continue research
pertinent to the Libraries on behalf of the United States throughout
the world. The Regents of the University of California also expressly
reserves the right to use the libraries for educational and research
purposes. If you are interested in obtaining the arrayed LLNL cosmid
libraries, please respond in writing to LLNL providing the following
information: (1) The name and address of your organization; (2) the
name, address, telephone, and fax of the point of contact in your
organization; (3) the expertise and facilities that your organization
possesses that would qualify you as a distribution/screening center;
and (4) the time frame in which you are willing to accept these
libraries. Please send this information to Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory, Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization, Attn: Gene
