307-1938. DATA NETWORKING ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE (ATM)
PRODUCTS--THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY--The U.S. Department
of Justice, Telecommunications Services Staff is seeking information
from organizations with the capability and experience to furnish ATM
networking equipment. There are several organizational components
within DOJ which operate independent LANs and MANs in Washington, D.C.
Additionally, users access legacy systems that are liked to a data
processing center in Rockville, MD. The existing T-1 mesh network uses
RACAL/DATACOM 9000 Omnimux Time Division Multiplexers (TDM) to provide
sub-rate data circuits (2.4, 9.6 & 56Kbps) or dedicated T-1 channels in
support of these users. We seek information on ATM products with the
capability to maintain the independent operations of the existing LANs
and legacy systems while transparently migrating the metro area WANs
to a single ATM network. Our specific areas of primary interest are:
(1) LAN emulation capabilities which allow multiple 10Base-T
connections of several independent LANS; (2) Video capabilities which
enable ATM multicast of NTSC/PAL video to multiple work-stations/PCs as
well as support video-conference applications; (3) T-1 emulation
capabilities (AAL-1/CBR) compatible with the existing mesh T-1 TDM MUX
network equipment; (4) ATM compatibility with the Bell Atlantic
tariffed OC3c/155Mbs ATM service. Interested firms that currently
provide ATM networking equipment should submit a description of their
qualifications and experience in providing similiar service to other
large organizations to include references and pricing information.
Technical information provided should address the following areas: ATM
switching capacity and architecture, LAN/WAN access device interface,
T-1 emulation, SNMP network management, signaling and classes of
service, connection management, routing and traffic handling,
maintenance support, and personnel training considerations. Responses
should also identify whether your firm is a small business concern
under SIC code 4813 (size standard = 1,500 employees) and if your
company holds a GSA Schedule Contract for these products. This synopsis
is for information and planning purposes only and is not to be
construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay
for information solicited. All information must be submitted in writing
to the Contracting Officer at the above address within 30 days from the
publication of this announcement. (0026) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0024 19950127\D-0002.SOL)
