58-Laser Aiming Module for H&K Offensive Handgun. Request for
Information (RFI). Due 22 Jul 94. Technical Contact point, Kathleen

(812)854-3698. Crane Division is interested in locating sources of
laser aiming modules (LAMs) to interface with the offensive handgun
under Navy contract with Heckler and Koch. Preliminary drawing of the
H&K pistol frame and the interface for a LAM are available. Some of the
general characteristics are as follows: The LAM shall have 5 modes of
operation with no detachable filter 1) visible laser only with Class
IIIA or less (power less than or equal to 5 mW, 1 mrad max divergence),
2) infrared laser only (power less than or equal to 1 mW, 150-200 meter
maximum range, 1 mrad max divergence), 3) variable focus visible flood
with visible laser in center of flood, 4) variable focus infrared
flood with infrared laser in center of flood, and 5) off mode (separate
on/off switch independent of mode switch). The LAM must use readily
available commercial or military batteries. The LAM must interface with
H&K offensive handgun and maintain boresight when removed and replaced
on the weapon. The LAM must be attachable/detachable in 15 seconds or
less. Maximum width of the LAM is 1.4 inches. Desired weight 0.5 lb
+/- 0.04. The LAM shall be waterproof to two atmosphere submersion (66
feet) for two hours. The LAM shall have durability of 15,000 two
second lasings for lasers and operable while attached to pistol for
15,000 rounds firing in all environments. Potential procurement of
approximately 1400 modules with initial delivery estimated to be August
