(505)665-0154. The University of California, which operates the Los
Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of
Energy, solicits interest from companies wishing to license, develop,
and market a new alpha radiation detection system capable of
continuously measuring concentrations of radon and other alpha-emitting
isotopes in air, based on discrete detection of individual alpha
decays. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to,
devices such as an accurate and inexpensive continuous radon monitor
with alarm similar to the common smoke detector for homes and other
applications, a rugged hand-portable radon sniffer that may help
identify points of entry of radon gas into buildings, an alpha
radiation air-quality monitor that distinguishes between radon gas and
other alpha-emitters, and other applications. Interestd organizations
must possess existing capabilities in manufacturing, marketing and
support services in the domestic marketplace. Any organization with
interests in the above mentioned areas must respond with a statement of
intent describing the organizations technical expertise, manufacturing
and marketing capabilities, financial resources (e.g., annual report
or corporate resume) and motivation for participating in this program.
The statement must be dated within fourteen (14) calendar days of the
