Marietta Energy Systems, Inc., Attention: Frank V. Damiano, Senior
Contract Administrator, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, PO Box 2008, Oak
Ridge, Tennessee 37831-6396, Facsimile: 615-4181. Martin Marietta
Energy Systems, Inc., acting under Contract No. DE-AC05-84OR21400
issued by the United States Department of Energy (DOE), operates the
Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Interested
individuals, corporations, colleges and universities are cordially
invited to attend a Biomedical Technology Opportunities Workshop to be
held April 3-4, 1995 in Atlanta, Georgia. A principal item in the
strategic plan of the DOE is to combine the resources and technology of
its national laboratories with those of industry to facilitate
commercialization and competitiveness in the national and international
markets. A biomedical technology initiative that will be a source of
new funding is to be announced by DOE in the near future and will be
the emphasis in a Workshop to be held on April 3-4, 1995. The main
goals of this workshop are: (1) to acquaint the biomedical technology
community with this new initiative; (2) to invite industrial leaders to
discuss the ways that this initiative can be beneficial; and (3) to
allow the national laboratories to acquaint their industrial colleagues
with the biomedical technology that has already been developed.
Further, it is hoped that a dynamic exchange of information will occur
between the industrial leaders and national laboratory research
members that will lead to development of new ventures in biomedical
technology. The six topic areas for the workshop are: (1) Biomedical
Sensors and Instrumentation; (2) Mammalian Models of Human Diseases;
(3) Manufacturing Systems and Micromachining Technologies; (4)
Bioinformatics: for Diagnostics and Image and Information Transmission,
Storage, and Retrieval; (5) Biomedical Materials Development; and (6)
Biomedical Technology Initiative at DOE. Each topic area will have two
hours for speakers, panel discussion and floor discussion. Each
speaker will be allotted approximately 20 minutes. Additionally, there
will be poster sessions all day April 3 and 4. Please notify Margaret
Taylor at (615)576-3651 of presentation needs (posterboards, chairs,
