COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 7,1995 PSA#1278Commander, U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station, ATTN:
CEWES-CT-C, 3909 Halls Ferry Rd., Vicksburg, MS 39180- 6199 66 -- INSTRUMENT AND LABORATORY EQUIPMENT POC Randy Brown,
601-634-4119 Notice of Intent to negotiate a Sole Source Contract with
Ivy, Inc. for a Geatek Multi-Sensor Core Logger to provide high-
resolution geophysical measurements of sediment samples. The core
logger must be able to obtain all geophysical measurements rapidly and
accurately on sediment cores while still in their liners, i.e.,
sediments are not to be removed from core liners. A microprocessor
controlled non magnetic core conveyor system, capable of handling core
sizes up to 1.5 m long and 130 mm in diameter at variable speeds up to
3m/min is required. The system must be capable of both automatic and
manual control. Required positional accuracy of sediment samples is
+0.5 mm in spatial increments between 5 and 20 mm. The system must be
upgradeable to operate on either unsplit or split core sections. The
core logger must be of a size, ruggedness, and portability for use in
either the laboratory or aboard ship. Recommended dimensions and
weights should be about 135 kg boxed. The system must fit a space of 5m
x 1m x 1m. All of the appropriate instrumentation, including electronic
hardware and software, for controlling the logger, acquiring the
necessary data, and performing the data processing (see a, b, and c) is
required. If no other sources are found, the Government intends to
award a contract to Ivy, Inc., Silver Spring, MD, the only known source
able to provide this equipment. Authority for award is 10 U.S.C. 2304
(c)(1). See Numbered Note 22. (0034) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0296 19950206\66-0004.SOL)
