U -- DIRECTOR OF COURSES, SANAA, YEMEN POC Contact Point, George Wilcox, 202-619-6694 The U.S. Information Agency (USIA) is accepting applications for the Director of Courses (DOC) position at its affiliated Yemeni-American language Institute (YALI) in Sanaa, Yemen. YALI provides English language courses from beginning to advanced level, has a teaching staff of approximately thirty-five, and enrolls approximately 1,500 students a term. There are six terms annually. YALI also has an office staff of six employees. The duties and responsibilities of the DOC are as follows: (a) Recruitment, hiring, training and supervision of locally-hired teachers and administrative staff. Ensuring overall quality of instruction at YALI; (b) Financial management of the program, including budgeting, payroll, accounting, and preparation of quarterly financial and statistical reports. Program must be self-financing; (c) Curriculum and materials development, organization and scheduling of courses, and registration of students, and (d) Ordering and distribution of teaching materials, care of teaching and office equipment, and of classroom facilities. Qualifications: (a) Master's degree in teaching English as a foreign/second language; (b) Minimum of five years full-time ESL/EFL teaching experience, preferably outside the United States, (c) Minimum of two years of management experience, preferably in an ESL/EFL program, (d) Native-level fluency in English. Some knowledge of Arabic; (e) Familiarity with word-processing and desk-top publishing software; and (f) Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, keen attention to detail and ability to plan ahead. Preference by mutual given to U.S. citizens. Contract for one year, renewable by mutual agreement. Candidate should be ready to start work by September 15, 1995. Salary/benefit package will likely be around $50.000. Salary qualifies as foreign earned income under IRS regulations hence may be ''tax free'' depending on personal circumstances.
