The Coastal Systems Station, NSWC, DD, intends to procure for the Navy Experimental Dive Unit two (2) 3/4 inch, high transmission, high resolution, quadrupole process mass spectrometers on a brand-name-or-equal basis. Manufacturer and model information is as follows: Extrel Corporation MS-250 Multi-purpose Gas Analyzer with QUESTOR IV SMARTools(tm), QUICKstick(tm) Vacuum Option with Iridium Filaments, 16-Port Rotary Valve, MS-250 Power Station, SMARTlink(tm), Fast Acquisition Software, 8-Channel Analog Output, Applications Engineering, Vacuum Chamber Pressure Display, and start-up service. Salient characteristics are: Breath to Breath analysis, as measured from 0 to 90% of full scale, in 50 milliseconds or less per component with proven respiratory analysis by the U.S. Navy (references required), Microsoft Windows(tm) based computer control system installed on a 486 DX2/66 computer (as further defined), Turbomolecular pumped, capable of processing gases in both high Nitrogen (plus or minus 79%) and high Helium (plus or minus 98%) background, on-line support via high speed modem for system support, diagnostics and troubleshooting, availability of consumables within 24 hours, capable of scanning from 1 to 250 atomic mass units (amu) for trace contaminants for extended chamber monitoring, dual filaments capable of being switched without equipment shutdown or process interruption other than to switch, 16-port rotary valve, vacuum chamber pressure display, analog outputs for a minimum of eight (8) selected components, multi-level alarm capability (two high and two low per component), capability to monitor up to 40 components and 64 masses for chamber monitoring of divers with a detection limit of 10 parts per million (ppm) and a dynamic range from 10 ppm to 100%.
