The Nicolet National Forest seeks a contractor with professional expertise in historic archaeology for archaeological evaluation of Euroamerican houseplace sites on the forest. Approximately 200 sites of this type have been found within the forest boundaries. The contractor will be responsible for submitting: 1) an historic context for Euroamerican houseplace sites in northeastern Wisconsin; 2) a set of evaluation criteria based on the historic context; 3) the National Register of Historic Places Registration Form (NPS Form 10-900) for approximately 20 houseplace sites on the forest; and 4) a report describing the results of the test excavations. All materials from the excavations, original notes, maps and other papers will be curated with the forest. The list of sites with pertinent information will be available to bidders. The historic context and evaluation criteria may be submitted as a National Register of Historic Places Multiple Property Documentation Form (NPS Form 10-900b). Site evaluations must be done in accordance with the regulations for Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Results of the evaluations must be accepted by the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation or their designated agents. The Nicolet National Forest is located in northeastern Wisconsin. (037)
